A large and quite substantial pair of very early 19th century English carved stone balls removed from an estate in Derbyshire. Undoubtedly, each one would have originally been mounted on top of stone gatepiers flanking a main entranceway as decorative finials and they are in fact often referred to as "gatepier balls". Today they make fantastic sculptural objects placed about on the lawn or in planting beds. Diameter: 22"
