Faux bois ( literally "false wood") was an art form originating in France well over a century ago and was derived from the rustic or naturalistic design esthetic that was finding increased popularity with the public at the time.

In creating pieces of this type, several successive layers of a cement and aggregate mix are applied by hand around an iron armature. The material is worked by the artisan while it is curing with the final layer of scoring done to resemble natural wood.   Diameter: 40"   Height: 29"
