LARGE FRENCH BIOT (46" height)

An exceptionallly large late 18th/early 19th century French biot jar. 

Biot is a style of pottery that has its origns as early as the 16th century and is named for the Provencal town of Biot in the south of France. Originally used to store oil and grain, Biot jars are often times seen wtih glazed rims, as the slippery nature of the glaze prevented insects from climbing inside.

Biot jars make wonderful focal points in the garden or inside the house.
