A well modeled and detailed 19th century English carved marble portrait bust of a gentleman. Nicely weathered from many years spent outside. Signed: James Sherwood Westmacott and dated 1855
Westmacott was born in London in 1823 and was part of a multi-generational family engaged in the arts. He studied under his uncle, Sir Richard Westmacott and created a number of works during his lifetime. Among some of the venues he exhibited at were: The Great Exhbition of 1851, The Paris Exhibition of 1855 and the International Exhbition of 1862.
